Tap a step to watch it again.
Open the doors under the sink. Clear things out so you can reach the back.
Look on the back wall where the pipes come out. Hot is on the left, cold is on the right.
Turn each handle clockwise until it stops. Hand-tight is enough.
Don't use a wrench. Forcing an old valve can snap it.Lift the faucet lever to let the pressure out. A little water may sputter, then nothing should run.
If a valve won't turn or drips at the stem, stop. Turn off the main water and ask Handyman for a pro.
The main shutoff is usually where the water line enters the house, near the meter or water heater.
What you need
- A flashlight
- A towel for drips
Call a pro if
- A valve won't turn, or it drips at the stem
- Water keeps running after both valves are closed

Handyman says: Turn off the main. I'll find a plumber.
Free for every home. Handyman asks a few questions, then books a pro it trusts.

a pro do it?
