Privacy Policy

This policy explains what WeReno, Inc. (“WeReno”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use Handyman (the app at app.handyman.ai, this website, and Handyman by text, iMessage, email and phone), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.

We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for targeted advertising, and we don't use it to train AI models. Google measures which of our ads lead to visits and sign-ups, unless you turn that off (section 5).

On this page:

1. Who we are

Handyman is made and run by WeReno, which is responsible for the personal information Handyman collects. You can reach our privacy officer at the contact details in section 12.

2. What we collect

2.1 What you give us

  • Your name, mobile number and email address, and the address of each home you add.
  • What you tell and send Handyman: texts, iMessages, chat messages, email to your home's Handyman address, and photos, videos and files like receipts, manuals and warranties.
  • Details about your home: its type and age, rooms, appliances and systems, the work done on it, and how to get in. Codes that open a door, a gate or an alarm are kept as sensitive.
  • Your jobs: what needs doing, photos, the prices you accept, bookings, visits and warranty claims.
  • The people you add to a home, like family, a tenant or a property manager: their name and how to reach them.
  • What you send from this website: your name, email, phone number and message, and your email address if you sign up for home tips.
  • Your choices: whether you agreed to texts, the exact words you agreed to and when, and your agreement to our terms.

2.2 Phone calls

  • Calls to Handyman are answered by an AI voice assistant. We record every call and turn it into a written transcript. The recording, the transcript and a short summary are kept with your conversation, matched to your account by your phone number, so Handyman and our team can follow up. If you'd rather not be recorded, text Handyman or use the app instead.

2.3 Payments

  • Card payments go through Stripe's checkout. Stripe collects your card details and keeps any card you save; we never see or store your full card number. Your billing address is kept by Stripe too, and we read it from Stripe when you look at it in the app.
  • We keep a record of each payment, refund and invoice. For an Interac e-Transfer, we keep its reference and the name and email it came from.

2.4 What we collect automatically

  • When you use the app or this website: your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you open and the features you use (section 5 explains cookies, analytics and ad measurement).
  • Cookies and browser storage: the app uses them to keep you signed in, one cookie remembers that you saw our cookie notice and what you chose, and analytics and ad cookies are set unless you turn them off, or in Quebec once you tap OK (section 5 lists them).

2.5 What we look up or work out

  • To get your address right, we check it with Google and Photon. For each home we look up a Street View picture of the outside, the weather forecast and official weather alerts for its location, and whether it's near water or woods.
  • Handyman's AI reads your messages, photos, files and call transcripts to answer you, fill in your home's records and work out what a job needs.

3. How we use it

  • To run Handyman for you: answer your questions, keep your home's records, remind you about upkeep, warn you about weather, find a pro, price and book work, take payments and give refunds.
  • To reach you: sign-in codes, answers, booking updates, receipts and the notices you've chosen.
  • To keep Handyman safe: confirm it's you, stop fraud and misuse, and keep the records the law requires, like tax and payment records.
  • To improve Handyman: see which features are used and where people get stuck (section 5), and look back over conversations to fix mistakes.

4. Who we share it with

People on our team see what they need to help you and to run the service. Private details like your phone number are hidden on their screens until they open them, and each time they do, it's logged.

4.1 The pro doing your job

A pro sees what they need to price and do your job: the job's description, its photos and the area, and, once they're booked, the home's address and how to get in. They don't get your phone number or email address from us. Every pro signs a confidentiality agreement to keep what they see private and use it only for your job.

4.2 The services we use to run Handyman

These companies handle information for us, under contracts that limit what they may do with it:

  • Supabase hosts our database, files and sign-in, in the United States.
  • Netlify hosts this website and the app.
  • Anthropic provides the AI (Claude) that reads your messages, photos, files and call transcripts and writes Handyman's answers. Under its terms with us, Anthropic doesn't use them to train its models.
  • Twilio sends and receives our text messages, including sign-in codes, and carries calls to our number.
  • Retell AI answers phone calls: it turns what you say into text and Handyman's replies into speech, and it records each call.
  • Linq carries iMessage conversations with Handyman.
  • Resend sends our email, and Mailgun receives the email sent to your home's Handyman address.
  • Stripe processes card payments, refunds and invoices, and keeps saved cards.
  • Google Maps Platform checks and completes addresses and provides Street View pictures of the home. Photon, by komoot, also suggests addresses as you type.
  • Open-Meteo provides weather forecasts for the home's location, and the U.S. National Weather Service and Environment and Climate Change Canada provide official weather alerts for its area.
  • PostHog provides product analytics and session recordings (section 5).
  • Google Ads, loaded through Google Tag Manager on this website and directly in the app, measures which of our ads lead to visits, sign-ups and bookings, unless you turn it off (section 5).
  • Google Analytics, in the app, counts page views and three moments (signing up, sending a job for bids and a paid booking), unless you turn it off (section 5).

4.3 Other times we share it

  • People you add to a home see what you allow.
  • If the law requires it, for example a court order, we disclose only what's required, and we tell you when we're allowed to.
  • If WeReno merges with or is bought by another company, your information goes with the business, and this policy still applies to it.

5. Cookies, analytics and ad measurement

The first time you visit handyman.ai or open the app, a short notice at the bottom of the page says we use cookies, with OK and Cookie settings. Outside Quebec, analytics and ad measurement are on from your first page, and Cookie settings is where you turn either one off. In Quebec, they stay off until you tap OK. OK closes the notice in that browser. The three groups:

  • Needed for the site (always on): keeps the site working and remembers your choices, like this one and light or dark mode.
  • Analytics (on unless you turn it off; in Quebec, from OK): Handyman's own tracker and PostHog count visits and show which pages and buttons get used, and PostHog makes recordings of visits. Recordings hide everything you type, and on the sign-up pages (Get started and every Join page) all text. In the app, Google Analytics also counts page views and three moments: signing up, sending a job for bids, and a paid booking.
  • Ad measurement (on unless you turn it off; in Quebec, from OK): Google Ads, loaded through Google Tag Manager on this website and directly in the app, tells us which of our ads led to a visit, a sign-up or a booking. When you sign up we tell Google it happened, never your name, email, phone number or address. Personalized ads are always off.

Handyman's own tracker sets hm_vid (this browser, up to a year, or 7 days on Safari) and hm_visit (this visit, 30 minutes) on handyman.ai and app.handyman.ai. It records the pages you open, the buttons you tap and how long a page is open. On a new visit it also records the page you landed on, the site that sent you and its campaign tags, your browser's language and your screen size, and, with ad measurement on, the ad's click id. Our host adds your city and region, a map point rounded to about 11 km, and your time zone. We don't keep your IP address. It's stored in our database (Supabase, United States).

When you sign up, the campaign that brought you is kept with your sign-up, whatever you chose. The ad's click id goes with it only if ad measurement is on. Signed in with analytics on, your visits are tied to your account's ID, and so are this browser's earlier visits to this website. If your account has no answer yet, it takes the one you gave on this website when you sign in. Our servers send PostHog events about your account, like a home added or a job booked, while analytics is on for it: as you answered, or with no answer, unless your home is in Quebec or you use Handyman in French, and then only once you tap OK or turn analytics on.

When you tap OK or save your choices, we keep a record: a random ID (also in the hm_consent cookie), what was on, what the notice or Cookie settings showed you, when, which version of this list it covered, your language, the page, by its name and never its full address, and the province or state our host places your connection in. Never your IP address. We keep it 2 years. In the app, your answer is also saved on your account.

To turn something off, or back on, use Cookie settings, which every page of this website shows, the button below, or Settings › Your data in the app. Turning something off stops it right away and deletes its cookies on handyman.ai. Google's own cookies on its domains stay until they expire or you clear them. We show the notice again after 12 months, or sooner if we add something to this list.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, analytics and ad measurement stay off, wherever you are: the notice says so, and so does Cookie settings.

6. Where your information is kept

Our main database is in the United States (Supabase, in Virginia), and some of the services in section 4 handle information in other countries. Wherever it is, the law of that country applies to it, and authorities there may be able to see it. We choose services that protect it, and our contracts with them require it. Before keeping the information of people in Quebec outside Quebec, we assessed the privacy risks and how they're handled, as Quebec's Law 25 requires; our privacy officer (section 12) can tell you about it.

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account, homes, records, conversations and call transcripts: while your account is open. When you ask us to close your account, we delete them within 30 days, except what the law makes us keep.
  • Things you delete in the app, like a file, a note or a home, can be restored for 30 days.
  • Payment, refund and invoice records: as long as tax law requires. In Canada that's six years after the end of the year they're for.
  • Logs of the emails we send and receive: 13 months, with the words cleared from them after 30 days. Email you send to your home's Handyman address is filed in that home's records and kept with them.
  • Records of what you agreed to and when: while your account is open, and afterwards for as long as we may need to show them.
  • Records of your cookie choices (section 5): 2 years.
  • Our own tracker's visits and events, and the browsers it hasn't seen in 13 months, are deleted every night once they're 13 months old. We keep only hourly and daily totals, which identify no one.
  • Call recordings are stored by Retell, and analytics and session recordings by PostHog, for as long as their services keep them. Ask us and we'll delete yours sooner.

8. Keeping it safe

Only people on our team who need your information can see it. Private details are hidden on their screens until they open them, and that's logged. Codes that open a door, a gate or an alarm need an extra permission to see. Every connection to Handyman is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure: if a breach puts you at risk, we'll tell you, and the authorities, as the law requires. We record every privacy incident, even a small one, in a register kept by our privacy officer (section 12), as Quebec's Law 25 requires.

9. Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct anything that's wrong;
  • delete your information or close your account;
  • stop texts (reply STOP) or emails you don't need;
  • withdraw a consent you gave, like texts, or turn off analytics and ad measurement in Cookie settings (section 5).

9.1 Canada

Under PIPEDA you can see and correct your personal information and withdraw your consent, and you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca). In Quebec, Law 25 also lets you ask for your information in a structured, commonly used format, ask us to stop spreading it, and be told when a decision about you is made by automated processing alone, with what it used and a person to review it. You can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca).

9.2 United States

If you live in the US, you can ask to know what personal information we've collected about you and how we use and share it, to get a copy, to correct it and to delete it, and we won't treat you differently for asking. We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

9.3 How to ask

Email handyman@wereno.com from the address on your account, or text us. We may ask you to confirm it's you, and we answer within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, write to our privacy officer (section 12), and you can also complain to your privacy regulator.

10. Children

Handyman is for adults. You must be 18 or older to have an account, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we tell you before it applies.
