Terms and Conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and WeReno, Inc. (“WeReno”, “we”, “us”) for using Handyman: the app at app.handyman.ai, this website, and Handyman by text, iMessage, email and phone. By creating an account or using Handyman, you agree to them. The refund rules are in section 6 and the warranty is in section 8.

If the consumer protection laws where you live give you rights these terms can't take away, you keep those rights. Nothing here limits them.

On this page:

1. What Handyman is

Handyman is an AI assistant for your home, made and run by WeReno. It keeps your home's records, answers your questions, works out what a repair needs, finds a pro, gets you a price, books the work and keeps track of it.

When you book work through Handyman, you buy it from WeReno. The work is done by an independent pro, a business we've reviewed and approved for its trade and area, working on your job as WeReno's subcontractor. WeReno takes your payment, pays the pro, and stands behind the work (section 8).

Pros run their own businesses. They aren't WeReno employees, and they decide how to do the work they've priced.

2. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Give us true information and keep it up to date: your name, your phone number or email, and your home's address.
  • Use Handyman only for homes you own or live in, or where the owner has asked you to arrange work.
  • Sign-in codes are for you alone. Don't share them. What's done from your account is your responsibility.
  • People you add to a home, like family, a tenant or a property manager, can see and do what you allow. You can change or remove their access at any time.

3. The AI, and who decides

  • Handyman uses AI to read what you send and to write its answers. AI can be wrong. What it tells you about repairs, safety or upkeep is general guidance, not a professional inspection. If something could be dangerous (gas, electricity, fire, a serious leak), leave it alone and call a professional, and in an emergency call 911.
  • Prices, amounts and dates Handyman gives you come from records: the pro's price, your booking, your invoice or our price list. The AI doesn't make them up, and when it can't find one it says so.
  • Nothing is booked, accepted, cancelled or paid for you until you say yes: in the app, by a link, or by replying YES from your verified phone number. The one exception is a payment you've set up to happen automatically, like paying for each recurring visit with a saved card, and only after you've agreed to it.
  • People on our team, not the AI, approve pros, issue refunds and decide warranty claims.

4. Prices and payments

  • Handyman is free to use, and there's no plan to buy. If we add paid extras one day, we'll tell you at least 30 days before any charge for them starts, and nothing you already have will be locked away if you don't buy them.
  • Pros set their own prices. The price Handyman shows you includes WeReno's fee on top of the pro's price. You see one price for the job, and it's the price you're asked to pay. If sales tax applies, it's shown before you say yes.
  • A price never goes up without your yes. If a pro finds the job is different from what was described, they tell us before they start, and you decide on any new price.
  • When you say yes to a price, you're asked to pay it then, or a deposit toward it if one applies (section 6). Services you order from the marketplace are paid when you order. Recurring visits are paid after each visit (section 7).
  • You pay by card, through Stripe's secure checkout, or by Interac e-Transfer, using the code on your payment request. WeReno never sees or stores your full card number; Stripe does. If you choose to save a card at checkout, Stripe keeps it for your next payment.
  • Each price shows its currency.
  • Handyman credits, if your household is in the credits program, come off eligible repairs and have their own terms in the app (How credits work). Credits have no cash value.
  • If you dispute a card payment with your bank, we'll answer with the job's records. Please tell us first: we can usually fix a problem faster.

5. Booking, visits and cancelling

  • When a pro is booked, Handyman tells you when they're coming and reminds you before the visit.
  • Make sure the pro can get in and has a safe place to work. Tell us about pets, alarms, parking and anything else they should know.
  • You can cancel a job by asking Handyman or from the job's page. Before any pro has been asked, it's cancelled at once. After pros have been asked or a pro is booked, you confirm with one yes; any unpaid payment request is cancelled, and a person on our team refunds what you've paid (section 6). Once work has started, a person on our team works it out with you. Finished work can't be cancelled; the warranty covers it.
  • A job cancelled by mistake can be put back within 24 hours by text, or within 30 days from the job's page, as long as no pro was told it was called off.

6. Refunds

These are our refund rules. They describe what Handyman does today, and your consumer protection rights still apply on top of them.

6.1 Site-visit deposits

Some work can't be priced until a pro sees it, so we ask for a deposit to book a site visit. It's fully refundable until you accept a price: cancel before then and all of it comes back to how you paid. If you go ahead, all of it comes off your final price.

6.2 Booking deposits

Some jobs ask for a deposit, instead of the whole price, when you say yes. It's fully refundable until the work starts. All of it comes off your final price, and the rest is due when the work is done.

6.3 Diagnostic fees

A diagnostic fee (a service call fee) pays for a pro to come and find the fault. It isn't refundable once the pro has come, and if the same pro does the repair, all of it comes off the repair price. If you cancel before the visit, or the visit doesn't happen because of us or the pro, a person on our team refunds it.

6.4 Cancelling before the work starts

Cancel a booked job before the pro starts, and a person on our team refunds everything you've paid toward it. Unpaid payment requests are cancelled, and any Handyman credits on them come back. Once work has started, we'll agree with you what's fair for the work already done.

6.5 Recurring services

Each visit is paid after it's done. Skipped visits, and visits after you pause or cancel, aren't charged. A one-time setup fee, if the service has one, is charged with the first visit.

6.6 How refunds come back

The way you paid. A card refund goes back to the same card through Stripe and usually shows within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank, and the payment's invoice shows a credit note for what came back. A payment by Interac e-Transfer is refunded by e-Transfer from us. We tell you when a refund is issued.

6.7 When something isn't right

If work isn't done, or isn't done properly, tell us through the job or reply to any email from us. Our first remedy is to have it put right under the warranty (section 8). If it can't be put right, a person on our team may refund some or all of what you paid for that work.

7. Recurring services

  • You can set up services that repeat, like lawn care, cleaning or filter changes, on a schedule you pick. Before anything is booked you see the price per visit, any one-time setup fee, and about what it comes to each month.
  • Each visit is paid after the pro marks it done: by card or Interac e-Transfer, or automatically with a saved card if you've agreed to that for the service.
  • You can skip a visit that's still to come, and put it back. You can ask to move a visit; it stays as booked until the pro agrees. You can pause for a trip, or until you resume. You can cancel at any time: visits still to come are cancelled, and visits already done are still owed.
  • A change to a service's schedule or price needs your yes and the pro's before it takes effect.

8. The workmanship warranty

Every job done through Handyman comes with a 90-day workmanship warranty, starting the day the job is done. Some pros offer longer, and a job always shows its warranty before you say yes.

If something goes wrong because of how the work was done, Handyman has it put right at no cost to you. It covers the workmanship on this job: how the work was done. Parts and materials are covered by their maker's warranty. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear, damage, misuse, or later work by someone else.

To make a claim, open the finished job in the app and choose Something's wrong with this work. A person on our team looks at it, and if it's covered we book a pro to put it right. The warranty adds to your rights under the law; it doesn't replace them.

9. Texts, calls and email

  • Handyman texts you only if you've agreed to texts. Our SMS terms say what we send, how often and what it costs. Reply STOP to stop texts, or HELP for help. Stopping texts doesn't close your account or cancel anything booked.
  • Calls to Handyman are answered by an AI voice assistant. Every call is recorded and transcribed, and the recording, the transcript and a summary are kept with your conversation (see our Privacy Policy). If you'd rather not be recorded, text Handyman or use the app.
  • Emails about your account and your jobs, like payment requests, receipts and booking updates, are part of the service, and they come whether or not you get texts.

10. Your home's information

  • What you send Handyman (messages, photos, files and details about your home) stays yours. You let WeReno store and use it to run Handyman for you: to answer you, keep your records, price and book work, and improve the service. Our Privacy Policy says who else handles it and why.
  • Only send what you have the right to share.

11. Using Handyman fairly

  • Don't use Handyman to break the law, mislead anyone, or harass anyone, including pros and our team.
  • Don't try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, overload Handyman, or copy it to build something else.
  • We may pause or close an account that breaks these rules.

12. Liability

If work done through Handyman damages your home, tell us straight away. Every pro working through Handyman must carry liability insurance, and we'll help you make a claim.

Handyman's free features (the assistant, your home's records, reminders and weather heads-ups) are provided as they are. We work to keep them accurate and running, but they can be wrong or unavailable, so don't rely on them alone for anything where safety is at stake. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for them is CA$100.

For work you book and pay for, we're responsible to you as the law requires, and the warranty in section 8 adds to that. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, like lost income or profits.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for injury or death caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.

13. Ending your account

  • You can stop using Handyman at any time and ask us to close your account. Closing it doesn't cancel what's owed for work already done.
  • We may pause or close an account that breaks these terms, puts a pro or our team at risk, or is used for fraud. If we close yours for any other reason, we'll tell you first and give you time to download your records.

14. Changes to these terms

  • When we change these terms, we post the new version here and update the date at the top. We tell you about changes that matter to you before they apply, and about any new charge at least 30 days before it starts. A change never applies to work you've already booked.

15. Law and disputes

  • These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
  • If something goes wrong, tell us first: most problems are fixed fastest that way. If we can't settle it, the courts of Ontario can decide it, unless the law where you live lets you go to your local courts instead.
  • If a part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
