Unplug it, or switch it off at its control.
Unplug it before you reach near the coils or the fan.Pull off the grille at the bottom front, or look at the back. The coils are a black grid or a row of thin tubes.
Brush and vacuum the dust off the coils gently, without bending the tubes or fins. Do it once or twice a year, more often with pets.
Some fridges have a shallow drip pan behind the bottom grille. Slide it out, empty it, wash it in warm soapy water and slide it back.
Snap the grille back on, plug the fridge in, and push it back without kinking a water line.
Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull it. If it slides out easily, wipe the seal with warm soapy water and try again. A seal that still lets it slide needs replacing.
