  1. Find the license or the city's email about it. The day it runs out is printed on it.

  2. Look up your city's rental license page: how to renew, what it asks for and how long it takes.

  3. Put a reminder in your calendar well before it runs out, and a second one closer to the day.

  4. Gather what the city's list asks for: often proof of insurance, a recent inspection and the owner's ID.

  5. If it needs an inspection, book it early, and walk the inspection checklist first.

  6. Renew it, and keep the new license and the receipt with your house papers.

  7. Already lapsed, or the city wants repairs first: call the city's licensing office, and ask Handyman for the pro the repairs need.
