Look in the utility closet, behind an access door or under the kitchen sink for a lever valve on the pipe coming in. It turns off your unit only.
A small tank in a closet, or a box on the wall. If the building heats everyone's water, you may not have one.
A cabinet in a closet or above the ceiling, with a filter behind its grille. It heats and cools your rooms.
A box with four round ducts, often in or above the laundry closet. It swaps stale air for fresh.
Behind the washer are its hot and cold valves and the drain. Behind the dryer is its vent.
Photograph each machine's label and where it sits, and send the photos to Handyman for your home's record.
A leak you can't stop, or water coming from another unit or a shared pipe: call your building manager or concierge right away. Shared pipes are the building's.
