Descale the dishwasher with a cleaning cycle
White film and spots come from hard water. A dishwasher cleaner, or a cup of vinegar on the top rack, run on a hot empty cycle clears them.

Take out every dish. The cleaning cycle runs empty.
Twist the round filter out of the tub's floor, rinse it under the tap, and twist it back in until it locks.
Put in a dishwasher cleaner as its label says, or stand a cup of white vinegar upright on the top rack.
Never mix cleaners, and never add bleach to vinegar.Close the door and run the hottest, longest cycle with nothing else in it.
When it's done, wipe the door's edges and the rubber seal round the tub with a damp cloth.
Open the rinse-aid cap on the door and fill it to the line. It keeps new spots away.
Water on the floor, water still standing in the tub after the cycle, or a burning smell: switch it off and ask Handyman for an appliance repair pro.
