Share a home with the people who help run it

Invite a partner, a parent, a property manager or a tenant to a home. Each gets the access that fits them: everything, the everyday, or just their own requests. You decide who sees what things cost.

A home is rarely run by one person. One partner books the plumber and the other has the receipts; a parent wants to see what's due at the cottage; a tenant needs a way to report a leak that doesn't involve a 10 p.m. phone call. Sharing a home with Handyman gives each of them the right view of it.

In this article:

Three kinds of access

  • Full access: everything on the homes you choose, costs and approvals included.
  • Everyday: sees the home, texts Handyman about it, starts jobs, gets prices and sends receipts. What things cost stays with you unless you switch on "Can see costs".
  • Tenant: reports problems and follows their own requests on one home, sees their upkeep and how to get in, and never sees money.

Each kind of access says what it lets someone do, not how they're related to you.

Adding someone

From a home, the People button on your homes, or Settings › People: a name, an email address or a phone number, the homes, and the kind of access. An email address gets the invitation straight away. A phone number gets nothing from Handyman: you send the link from your own phone, through the share sheet, a text that opens already written, or a copy. Only an owner adds or removes people. Adding a co-owner? Give them Full access, then make them an owner.

Access

Tenants

Tenant access is for one home, with the date they moved in and, if you know it, the date they move out. Access ends at midnight on the move-out day, in the home's own time zone. Tenants report what's wrong and follow what happens; you decide on repairs, and they never see what anything costs.

Everyone talks to the same Handyman

Each person can text Handyman about the home and gets answers from the same record, so nobody has to forward the furnace's model number again. Each person's conversation is their own: nobody reads anyone else's. And the cost wall holds everywhere: someone without cost access sees no figures, in the app or by text.
