Hang a pre-hung door: what's involved
What a pre-hung door is, what to measure and photograph, what a carpenter does, and what to have ready: inside doors and outside ones.

What’s involved
No hands-on steps here: what the job is, what a pro does, and what to have ready.
A pre-hung door comes already hung in its own frame, ready to set into the wall's opening.
Measure the door's width and height, the wall's thickness at the frame, and which side the hinges are on.
Photograph the door, its frame and the trim on both sides, so a carpenter can quote from them.
They take out the old door and frame, set the new one in, shim it level and plumb, fasten it, and fit the trim. An outside door is also sealed at its sill.
Choose the door and which way it swings, clear space on both sides, and keep pets in on the day.
Rot at the sill, a frame out of square, or a door that drafts or won't latch: ask Handyman for a carpenter.
