Find where the pipe comes into the house, and follow it with your eyes to each appliance. Touch nothing.
Smell gas or hear a hiss? Don't look further. Leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.Look along the pipe and at its joints for rust, flaking or a crusty build-up.
Look at the flexible connector from the pipe to each appliance. It shouldn't be kinked, crushed, cracked or rubbing on anything.
The pipe should be held up by its straps or hangers, not sagging, and nothing should hang from it.
Smell gas, hear hissing or see damage? Leave it, and call the gas utility from outside. Rust or a kinked connector with no smell: ask Handyman for a licensed gas pro.
